Cyrus Controls Ltd is a systems integrator based in St Helens, Merseyside. For over 15 years, we have specialized in Siemens automation equipment, and are approved Siemens solution partners. Based in the north west of England, we offer services UK wide.

Siemens Step5 PLC upgrades

As a company we specialise in the upgrading of Siemens S5 PLCs to Siemens S7 PLCs. We have developed a methodology which allows us to run the old and new systems in quasi-parallel mode which enables us to switch back in minutes, thereby minimizing risk to production.

SCADA and PC applications

We have considerable experience in SCADA applications, and have undertaken projects in both Simatic WinCC Classic, WinCC Professional and Wonderware Intouch utilising a large number of clients and heavy scripting in VB and C, and incorporating advanced options such as User Archives, Web Navigator, Maintenance station etc.

This project involved the design, generation and commissioning of software from scratch for 3 large production lines producing multiple variants of sunroofs for the automotive industry.

Davyhulme, Manchester
Boilerhouse supervisory system

This system was developed using Siemens S7-300 and its purpose was to remotely control and coordinate 3 large boilers in the Davyhulme Water treatment works. The PLC was required to communicate with the Dunphy boilers and various other devices in the field Via Modbus RTU. There was also a connection to a DCS system via Profibus

Pumping station WinCC V6.2 upgrade

This system was developed using Siemens S7-300 and its purpose was to remotely control and coordinate 3 large boilers in the Davyhulme Water treatment works. The PLC was required to communicate a DCS system and with the Dunphy boilers and various other devices in the field Via Modbus RTU.

Schuller Tri-axis press upgrade

The Tri-axes press is controlled by five Siemens S5 PLCs. We completed the upgrade of the PLC from S5 to S7 400. This included the upgrade of both the PLC and the visualisation. This process was completed without the need for long periods of down time. The system we implemented allowed us to commission the S7 system around production requirements.

WinCC SCADA upgrade

This upgrade of an existing WinCC system from 4.1 to 7.0 included an extensive amount of C script and advanced WinCC functions. We also replaced an FI 45 PC running ProTool and HMI advanced with WinCC Flexible. The upgrade was required due to the obsolescence of the FI 45 PC.

Induction Heating machine HMI Upgrade

This project involved the upgrade of the existing Siemens S5 135U system, which included IP242 and IP246 cards with a com graph based visualization system. It was upgraded to a Siemens S7 317T technology PLC with a WinCC Flexible visualization system based on an MP 377 HMI.

Weld cell part tracking PI System

A Process Information system was generated in order to track parts through a robot welding cell to allow the cell to produce multiple part types in a single batch. This application was then applied to a further eight similar cells. 2D matrix scanners were used to enter data from a job sheet to a shift register on a Proface HMI/PLC. The Proface interfaced to the existing Mitsubishi PLCs to control the cells.

Blanking Press 4 stacker PLC upgrade

The element of this press was controlled by two Siemens S5 115U PLCs. These PLCs have been replaced by a single Siemens S7 and a Simotion system. A WinCC Flexible visualization system was also added.

Demonstration Panel

Palletizer robot PLC interface

Cyrus Controls provided the PLC control for a palletizing robot cell which palletized various sized boxes of Tea.
The robot code was done by PC Robotics

Black Liquor treatment System

A Siemens PLC was used here in conjunction with an Omron HMI for control of a Black Liquor processing machine at a Pulping station, Manchester.

Roaster PLC and safety system upgrade

This project involved upgrading the existing Siemens S5 115U system with a Com Graph visualization system to a Siemens S7 315F safety PLC system together with WinCC visualization

End of line test

The Avensis assembly line at Toyota used an S5 system for controlling the Wheel Alignment process. We upgraded this system to a PC based S7 PLC and the wheel alignment calculations (previously performed by discrete electronics) were included within the PLC software. Once completed we performed the same upgrade on the Headlamp Aim and Brake Test machines.

Demonstration Panel

We produced the control and graphics for a demonstration panel, used by Lloyd Morris, for the purpose of advertising equipment. Devices used in this demonstration panel included Socomec electrical analysis devices, Simocode relays and Micromaster 4 drives,
